the hand lever that causes the chair to raise the leg lifter is fine. The backward motion of the back rest has to be pushed while sitting on the chair and when it is back you have to invert your arms to bring it forward and this lifts your legs a bit, which is fine because then you feel as though you are sitting up straight.
